Social Issue

Kazakhstan has achieved large reductions in poverty over the past decades, making it today a relatively rich country. However, income inequality is still quite significant in remote rural areas of the country relative to the urban centres.

Our Response

The Netri Foundation has provided KMF with a loan in local currency in order to support its efforts to provide financial services to people normally underserved by banks, especially in rural and remote areas of the country.

KMF lends mainly to microentrepreneurs, especially in the livestock sector, and to small businesses. Some 56% of its clients are women.

KMF-Demeu, KMF’s parent foundation, runs social, cultural, and educational programs. It offers free financial education to Kazakh families in rural areas.

Expected Social Impact

With this investment by Netri Foundation, it is estimated that KMF will be able to provide more than 710 microloans to its clients with the aim of improving business opportunities and well-being.
