Construction of 9 houses
India, 2024
Social Issue
In rural areas of India, many families from underprivileged communities live in precarious self-built housing, far from public services and lacking minimum conditions of hygiene and sanitation.
Our Response
Since 1996, the Fundación Vicente Ferrer (FVF) has been working in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to guarantee conditions of habitability, functionality, structural safety and sanitation for the most disadvantaged.
In collaboration with FVF, Netri will finance 9 of the 22 houses built in the village of Banavasi-(YMG), Yemmiganur area, Adoni region, Kurnool district.
Since 2006, Netri has supported FVF’s housing construction programme, contributing to the completion of a total of 115 homes with this project.
These houses, built with the collaboration of the entire beneficiary community, mark a significant change by making families the owners of homes that guarantee decent living conditions. In addition, these houses have a space for personal hygiene that promotes the safety of young girls and women, who in consequence avoid having to leave the village and expose themselves to numerous risks.
Expected Social Impact
The objectives of the project are as follows:
- To provide housing in sanitary and hygienic conditions for 9 disadvantaged families.
- To empower women: the new houses are deeded in their names. In this way, they obtain property and an asset for the future of their children.
- To encourage schooling: one of the requirements for receiving a house is that the children of the family must attend classes in the public schools in the area.
