Equipment for a vocational training centre
Mozambique, 2013
Social Issue
Mozambique has a population of 27 million people, with a life expectancy of 50 years, and ranks 180th according to the Human Development Index report. The project is carried out in Ibo, an island in northern Mozambique that has very high levels of poverty. 3,500 people live in Ibo, 53% of whom are under 14 years of age. The main economic activities of the Cabo Delgado province, to which the island belongs, are agriculture, livestock, artisanal fishing, trade, and logging.
Our Response
The purpose of the skills development centre is to train boys and girls from 12 or 13 years old in a trade (sewing, carpentry, mechanics, electricity, horticulture, nutrition, and computers). Previously, and due to the deficiencies of the educational system, they are taught to read and write correctly.
Expected Social Impact
The Netri Foundation provides the necessary educational and electrical material for the training of 50 students.
The project will benefit an estimated 405 people per year. Taking into account who it is aimed at, in the coming years, this project will potentially benefit a total of 1,850 children under the age of 14 who live in Ibo.
