Financial services for informal sector entrepreneurs
Serbia, 2013
Social Issue
After the breakup of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of Yugoslavia, unemployment in Serbia soared and many people had to rebuild their lives, forced to start their businesses to survive.
Our Response
Microloans are a powerful tool to promote small-scale productive activities and improve farmers’ production.
In 1998, World Vision participated in aid programmes in the former Yugoslavia, including microfinance from an NGO in Montenegro in September 1999. In 2006, the union of Serbia and Montenegro was broken, generating two sovereign states. World Vision Fund International currently has a microfinance institution in both countries, constituting together the Agroinvest holding.
Expected Social Impact
This investment of the Netri Foundation, will make it possible to provide 629 loans over 2 years.
