Social Issue

According to the World Bank, 53% of Mexico’s population is poor, while about 24% live in extreme poverty.

As in other developing nations, the rural population of Mexico suffers the worst consequences of poverty. Basic services that help people survive and thrive, such as bank loans to start businesses and health care, are concentrated in urban areas.

Our Response

Microloans are a powerful tool to promote small-scale productive activities and improve farmers’ production.

SemiSol was created in 2002 in the state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico. Currently, it has five offices spread along the coast of that state. It is the poorest area in the country.

80% of its clients are women, who are mostly engaged in small businesses.

Expected Social Impact

With this investment of the Netri Foundation, it is estimated that SemiSol will be able to provide 2,336 microloans, with the idea of empowering rural communities in southern Mexico.
