I am 18 years old and I live in Robit with my mother and my three brothers and, although I have no children, I take care of my niece who lives with us. My house, like many in Robit, had a well that collected rainwater and that my brothers were responsible for keeping digging the ground.
The water accumulated in it did not last long and, being an open well, it became contaminated with the passage of time, or was destroyed by floods in the rainy season. From this well we used to draw water to drink, cook, bathe and wash clothes, as well as to give livestock to drink.
When the well dried up, we had to fetch water from the river that runs through the center of the town, digging around the riverbed to look for small isolated pockets of water free of animal excrement and other contamination. The whole town was there and it became so crowded, the queue to collect water was such that many times I had to collect it directly from the river.
I am very happy since we now have drinking water next to the house. We don’t have to wait or queue to pick it up and we can have as much as we want.
