Financial services for low-income entrepreneurs
Africa, 2021
Social Issue
The informal sector and micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) form the backbone of many economies in Sub-Saharan Africa, acting as engines for growth and income generation.
However, access to finance is still by far the largest obstacle to growth as the local financial markets tend to focus on providing credit to large institutions in a few sectors.
Our Response
REGMIFA was created in 2010 following an initiative by the G8 under the leadership of European and International Development Finance Institutions to foster employment and income generation through the provision of loans and technical assistance to institutions serving micro, small and medium-sized enterprises(MSMEs) and low and middle-income households in Sub Saharan countries.
Expected Social Impact
With this investment of the Netri Foundation, it is estimated that REGMIFA will be able to provide 2,100 microloans to its partner clients, with the aim of enhancing business opportunities and income generation.
