Social Issue

Although Uganda’s health system has improved, it still faces significant challenges in terms of health outcomes. The infant mortality rate remains high. It stands at around 31 deaths per 1,000 live births, and the maternal mortality rate is around 284 per 100,000. Rural areas are particularly susceptible to infectious diseases, due to the difficulty in accessing quality healthcare.

Our Response

Nurture Africa is a registered NGO in Uganda and Ireland. They provide health services, educational support, child advocacy, nutritional support and financial literacy.

In 2023, Netri co-funded a maternal operating room which has been operational since December 2023. This addition has enabled the Nurture health center to upgrade to category IV, allowing it to care for patients and complicated cases referred from other public health centers in the region. Nurture Africa provides free medical care for the underprivileged at its medical center. 

This new donation will contribute to the overall budget of their health program for the next 2 years. Netri will contribute 7% of the total budget to fund their health program.

Expected Social Impact

The activities and expected results of its one-year health program are as follows:

 

  • 20,000 people will receive primary health services.
  • 2,000 women will receive maternal/child health and childbirth care from skilled birth attendants.
  • 360 women will be treated in obstetrics operating rooms.
  • 10,000 people will receive HIV testing and counseling; 100% of the positives will be enrolled in the program.
  • 10,000 women and youth will receive Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education.
  • 3,000 women and young people will have access to family planning, reducing unwanted pregnancies by 50%.
  • 3,000 children will be vaccinated.
  • 2,000 women will undergo early detection of breast and cervical cancer, and all will be referred for treatment.
  • 25 health team members will be trained in neonatal screening; 100% of sick newborns will receive treatment.
