Social Issue

Every year hundreds of thousands of people cross the Sahara desert and the Mediterranean Sea in search of economic opportunities. As they set out on their journey, most are completely uninformed about the dangers of the route and the difficulties in obtaining employment in Europe legally. This phenomenon not only takes the lives of many, but perpetuates and aggravates the cycle of generational poverty.

Our Response

The primary mission of NASCO Feeding Minds is the provision of quality digital education in different rural areas of Ghana. Through this activity, they seek to root out the current poverty and forced migration crises, provide opportunities at source and promote employment in the country.

They currently run 17 computer classrooms in northern Ghana where they teach a basic ICT (Information and Communications Technology) curriculum to children between the ages of 6 and 18. More than 60,000 children have been reached so far.

In April 2023, NASCO started a bootcamp in order to improve the skills of its current programmers, so that they can apply for a remote programming position with Spanish clients.

Netri’s donation will contribute to the financing of a 3-month bootcamp of intensive training in software technologies for current NASCO Tech programmers and external students who want to join NASCO Tech in the future.

Expected Social Impact

NASCO Group’s theory of change is that by providing digital education in rural areas, they will develop the talent and interest of young people to pursue further education and job opportunities locally. In addition, by developing a social enterprise that hires local programmers to work with international clients to carry out some of their IT activities/tasks (an outsourcing model), more local employment opportunities will be encouraged, thus reducing forced immigration of vulnerable groups.

Netri’s contribution is expected to finance 57% of the cost of the next bootcamp in which 15 young people will receive intensive training to improve their skills, both in programming and softskills, in order to improve both their employability and the quality of service provided by NASCO Tech.
