Social Issue

Benin remains one of the poorest countries in the world where the informal sector, particularly agriculture and services represent up to 70% of GDP. The promotion of domestic business opportunity is a key driver to reduce poverty in the country. However, financial access to grow micro enterprises remains very limited.

Our Response

The Netri Foundation has provided Vital Finance with a  loan in local currency with the objective to support its efforts to service micro-entrepreneurs and ultimately improve their well-being.

Vital Finance started as a USAID-funded microfinance project in 1998 and has grown to be one of Benin’s largest microfinance institutions, Vital Finance has built up an extensive network of service points across Benin, including three key-agencies in the cities of Cotonou, Porto-Novo and Parakou. Most of its micro-credits are funding women entrepreneurs involved in trade and service activities.

Expected Social Impact

With this investment of the Netri Foundation, it is estimated that Vital Finance will be able to provide over 390 microloans to their clients, with the expected outcome of enhancing their business opportunities, incomes and wellbeing.
