Social Issue

The project is to be developed in the Emmaus area, in the Tana River county, eastern Kenya, and only 120 kilometers from the border with Somalia. This is a semi-desert area, with an average temperature of 30 to 35 degrees throughout the year, and with one of the highest poverty rates in the country. The Tana River, which is the largest in Kenya, crosses this area, leaving on its banks a very fertile land where the people of the Pokomo ethnic group develop small-scale subsistence agriculture that depends on the rains for the irrigation of their fields.

Our Response

Netri’s donation will finance 82% of the budget for the construction of a centre with four rooms that will house a sewing business with sewing machines, a bookstore with office supplies, a copy shop with internet access, a food shop, and a cooking school.

Expected Social Impact

The project aims to increase the quality of life and economic autonomy of some 200 young people in this area through the creation of employment in sustainable businesses. This will positively influence their families and the entire social framework of the region.
