Social Issue

Although the region in which Kanso is located, a floodplain during the rainy season, is rich in vegetation, the town lacks water during the dry season. In addition, there are gold mines 50 kilometres away from Kanso and many parents decide to send their children to work there. Many people from Kanso work in the mines during the dry season, thus abandoning agricultural land.

Our Response

Ecos de Mali is working on a comprehensive project that wants to provide basic infrastructure to the town of Kanso. One of its actions is the creation of a new two-hectare orchard in which the Malian population is provided with means such as wells to store water in order to cultivate permanently. With the donation of Netri, two wells are built. The first one of 12,200 litres per hour, and the second of 2,600 that will be used to supply water through manual pumping.

The fundamental objectives of the project are the following:

  • Facilitate access to water for the garden.
  • Get water throughout the year.
  • Increase the productivity of the garden.
  • Empower women in the town of Kanso.

Expected Social Impact

It is expected to benefit about 200 women directly and their relatives indirectly.
