Social Issue

Climate change is causing long periods of drought and uncontrollable floods in Cambodia. This situation is catastrophic for agriculture and forces many peasants to abandon their lands. Due to these great migrations, which in 2016 affected thousands of people, and as a consequence of the lack of sanitary measures in the country, the risks of transmission of infections have increased exponentially.

Our Response

Vision Fund Cambodia (VFC) is a non-bank financial institution resulting from the spin-off of the old World Vision MED programme. In 2003, VFC was registered as a microfinance institution, receiving the relevant license from the National Bank of Cambodia a year later.

The main beneficiaries of VFC financing services are low-income people in rural central-north, central-south, and north-western Cambodia. VFC offers loans with an average amount of $441 and also provides education and health services, loans for water filters, sanitation, and education for children. It currently has more than 200,000 clients.

Expected Social Impact

With this investment of the Netri Foundation, it is estimated that LOLC will be able to provide 1,200 microloans to empower communities and facilitate their access to medical care in Cambodia.
