Social Issue

In 1978 the Vicente Ferrer Foundation started its educational programme to raise awareness among the population of India about the importance of schooling. The biggest problem the Foundation encountered was the difficulty of children from the poorest communities to adapt to the school system. Furthermore, youth and infants from the lowest castes lack the resources to be able to learn in suitable conditions. Lack of books, places to study, or money for college tuition are just some of the many obstacles they run into.

Our Response

The project consists in the donation of 221 bicycles to girls and 296 to boys in the state of Andhra Pradesh, which includes the Kundurpi, Gudibanda, Kanekal, and Mamillapalli areas.

Donating bicycles avoids travel problems due to the lack of adequate means of transportation, making families more likely to accept that their daughters and sons continue their studies.

It has also been used to raise families’ awareness of the importance of education as an effective instrument to combat poverty.

Expected Social Impact

It is expected to benefit 517 students between 12 and 16 years old and, indirectly, their families by promoting social advancement through education.
