Social Issue

After the breakup of the Soviet Union, unemployment in Armenia skyrocketed and many people found themselves unemployed, with no income, and forced to start their own businesses to survive.

Our Response

Microloans are a powerful tool to promote small-scale economic activities and improve farmers’ production.

FINCA Armenia was founded in 1999 under the name FINCA Charity Foundation to address FINCA International’s mission in the country and in this way support low-income entrepreneurs. In May 2006, it became a limited company after the enactment of a series of laws that allowed microfinance institutions (MFIs) to be regulated by the Central Bank of Armenia. Today, the institution has more than 50,000 clients and maintains a strong social orientation thanks to its network of branches throughout the country and its commitment to providing its services to the less wealthy segments of the population.

Expected Social Impact

With the investment of the Netri Foundation, it is estimated that FINCA Armenia will be able to provide 406 microloans to empower rural communities in Armenia.
