Social Issue

The reduction of poverty in Bosnia remains a challenge. More than 20 years after the end of the war, the citizens of Bosnia still suffer from famine. Approximately 50% of the country could fall into poverty. The poverty rate is 19% in rural areas, and 9% in urban areas.

Our Response

Microloans are a powerful tool to promote small-scale productive activities and improve farmers’ production.

LOK started its microfinance activity in 1997 with the support of the World Bank as part of a pilot programme to introduce the culture of microcredit in Bosnia. It is currently the fifth-largest microfinance institution in the country and serves 23,598 clients.

Expected Social Impact

With this investment of the Netri Foundation, it is estimated that this credit will be able to provide more than 180 loans to LOK clients.
