Social Issue

Poverty remains a serious problem for the majority of the Tajik population despite the country’s sustained economic growth in recent years. Tajikistan remains one of the poorest countries in the world with a GNI per capita of $1,110 according to World Bank data. Therefore, poverty reduction is one of the country’s priority objectives.

Our Response

Microloans are a powerful tool to promote small-scale productive activities and improve farmers’ production.

HUMO was created in 2008 as the successor to a microfinance institution established in 2004 by Care International. HUMO now has more than 18,000 clients and is focused on providing a range of individual and group loans in remote and rural areas in both the south and north of the country.

Expected Social Impact

With this investment of the Netri Foundation, it is estimated that HUMO will be able to provide 1,200 microloans to empower rural communities in northern and southern Tajikistan.
