Construction of a secondary school
Burundi, 2009
Social Issue
Nyamugari Hill, with a population of 3,965 inhabitants in 2008, has an elementary school built between 2008 and 2009 attended by 427 students.
In the Mutumba region, during the 2008-09 academic year, there were 8,497 primary school students but only 650 secondary school students. This is mainly due to the lack of secondary schools and the long distance that students must travel to study.
Our Response
The project consists of the construction and equipment of a secondary school with capacity for 300 students with four classrooms, an administrative office, six toilets and complete equipment.
Expected Social Impact
The construction of the secondary school will provide the hill with infrastructures that will allow hosting secondary students from the area who must currently go to other centres such as the Liceo Gatonde (5 kilometres) and the Liceo Rabiro (14 kilometres away). This way, they will be able to complete the full educational cycle.
