Social Issue

Honduras is a country with a lower middle income level and facing great challenges with more than 50% of the population living in poverty (according to official data from 2009). In rural areas, approximately one in five Hondurans lives in extreme poverty, or on less than $1.90 a day.

Our Response

Established in Seguatepeque, the microfinance company COMIXMUL began its activities in 1986 with a loan project to 12 women and it has become an important cooperative that operates through nine delegations.

Expected Social Impact

We have already provided a loan in 2008 that we expanded a year later. We expect that with this additional amount COMIXMUL will provide around 160 microcredits a year and approximately 830 by the end of the five years of our loan.

Thanks to this investment by the Netri Foundation, the entity’s microloans are expected to help empower Honduran communities in job creation.
