Social Issue

The health care system in Nigeria suffers from a lack of funding and investment. In the WHO’s ranking of health care delivery across the world, Nigeria ranks 156th out of 191 countries. The WHO highlights that Nigeria has one of the worst mortality rates caused by non-communicable diseases due to lack of early diagnosis and adequate treatment of diseases. Quality healthcare services are concentrated in the country’s biggest cities and in the wealthiest neighbourhoods. It is estimated that only 3% of the population has  health insurance coverage and 70% of the population pays out of pocket for any medical care, leading many Nigerians to not seek medical care or to turn to low-quality alternatives.

Our Response

MDaaS was founded in 2017 to address this deficit of affordable diagnostic services in the country by building a network of centres located in underserved areas of the country.

Currently operating in eight states, it offers a wide range of diagnostic services related to imaging, cardiology, and pathology. MDaaS has leveraged technology and has built a proprietary system to manage their network of facilities, lowering the cost of care and improving patient experience.

Netri Foundation is supporting MDaaS with a loan that will finance the construction of new diagnostic centres.

Expected Social Impact

By offering high-quality diagnostic services at affordable prices MDaaS can help patients and clincians identify health problems in a more timely and accurate manner, helping reduce disease intervention costs as well as disease incidence.

To date, MDaaS has served more than 175,000 patients in its clinics, 64% being  women thanks to its focus on maternal health.

With the funding provided by Netri, it is expected that MDaaS can build four new clinics, which will increase the reach of its quality and affordable diagnostic services in underserved areas, with the expected outcome of improving the health and wellbeing of many who couldn’t previously easily access this type of care.
