Social Issue

One of the most common causes of school dropout among high school students in rural areas of the Anantapur and Kurnool districts is long distances between their homes and the schools they attend, which can be from 3 to 9 kilometers.

The main difficulties in coping with the length of the journey are the lack of economic resources of the families, the absence of public transport and insecurity on rural roads, where, above all, girls can be victims of sexual abuse or assault.

All these factors push parents to force their daughters and sons to drop out of school, sometimes out of fear that something bad will happen to them, and others because they prefer that they start working to contribute to the low family economy.

Our Response

In collaboration with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, 309 bicycles have been delivered to facilitate and provide educational continuity to secondary school students in the areas of Kanekal, Rayadurg, Nallacheruvu, Uravakonda and Bathalapalli.

In this way, an adequate, viable and safe transportation alternative has been provided to young people from families with limited economic resources, who reside in villages with difficult access to secondary schools.

Expected Social Impact

This project has contributed to the improvement of life and the social integration of 309 girls and boys between 12 and 16 years old, in vulnerable situations, by facilitating the continuity of their secondary education.
