Social Issue

As a consequence of the recent conflicts in the Caucasus (the Chechnya war in 1999, the conflicts in South Ossetia and Abkhazia in the early 1990s and again in 2008), there is a significant amount of internally displaced Georgian population, temporarily housed and with no possibility of returning to their homes in conflict zones. In Georgia, a country of four million people, about one in 20 citizens has had to relocate because of the wars of the past three decades.

Our Response

Constanta began its activity in 1997 thanks to the support of Save the Children and other important entities in the cooperation and development world: USAID, CARE and Mercy Corps. In 2006, the entity was transformed into a commercial bank but it continues to be faithful to its initial mission – helping Georgia’s most disadvantaged and displaced population.

Expected Social Impact

With this loan, it is expected that Constanta will be able to provide more than 800 microcredits after one year.
