Social Issue

Getting drinking water in Burkina Faso is quite a challenge in a country whose main economic activities are agriculture and livestock. Only 0.1% of the territory is covered by water and 41% of the rural population does not have access to it.

Our Response

The project, consisting in the construction of a water well, takes place in the town of Sapoui, Diarro, in the province of Nahouri. Its objectives are as follows:

  • To promote hygiene and cleanliness of the approximately 1,500 direct beneficiaries, as well as the quarantine of women who work in the association.
  • To multiply income-generating agricultural activities for women in the area.
  • To train some 4,000 participants in techniques to combat soil aridification, by cultivating plants such as jatropha, date or moringa, and in the techniques of collecting and preserving their seeds.

Expected Social Impact

With the donation, a well was built to improve access to drinking water for 1,500 inhabitants of the town of Sapoui, Diarro, in the province of Nahouri.
