Emergency aid for drought in Ethiopia
Ethiopia, 2016
Social Issue
Our Response
Despite the fact that the Ethiopian government responded to the serious crisis with an investment of 200 million USD, this amount wasn’t sufficient, and it’s here that the donation of the Netri Foundation comes in, going to the NGO which worked directly with the communities affected by the drought in the region of Tigray, in the north of Ethiopia. Specifically, and with a transversal focus, the aid was directed to the schools of the communities of AdiKeyh and Senale, so that this way, during a humanitarian crisis, the pupils and their families received food.
The fundamental objectives of the project were the following:
- Provide basic food to the children of the schools of AdiKeyh and Senale, and to their families, to overcome the situation of crisis.
- Ensure that the boys and girls, despite the drought and the humanitarian crisis, continued to attend school.
- Offer clean water to the communities of Gondar and Shoa.
- Improve the communities’ response to drought situations.
- Facilitate the lives of women in the community who have to move to fetch water.
Expected Social Impact
Netri’s donation has helped 543 children from the Adi Keyh and Senale schools and their families thanks to the construction of shallow and deep wells.
